  • 1 lb lean ground beef 85/15 or 90/10 works best
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese sharp cheddar adds the best flavor
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 cup Bisquick baking mix or all-purpose flour plus baking powder
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C) and grease a 9-inch pie dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is no longer pink. Drain excess grease.
  • Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  • Spread the seasoned beef mixture evenly into the prepared pie dish and sprinkle the cheddar cheese over the top.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the Bisquick baking mix, milk, and eggs until smooth.
  • Pour the batter evenly over the beef and cheese. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden and set. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.

You can swap ground beef for turkey if you prefer something lighter.
For a no Bisquick version, use all purpose flour plus half teaspoon baking powder.
